AeMAT - Strategic Grouping of Materials

The Partnership

The Strategic Grouping of Materials (AeMAT) is made up of 11 multidisciplinary groups from the USC with significant research capabilities both in the field of basic and applied knowledge of materials, including development of processes and transfer to production sectors in the country.

AeMAT strives to organise the strengthened capabilities at the University of Santiago de Compostela in a structured and complementary way.

Strengthen research into technological materials and nanoscience, exploring the balance between pioneering research based on the complementary nature of its range of scientific capabilities and applied research with a clear technological projection.

Defend standards, criteria and profiles to develop an optimal critical mass.

Establish an organisation which promotes a collective culture, allowing common strategies to be more effectively and efficiently shared between the research groups who make up the Research Agenda.

Manage the complementary nature of the related scientific capabilities to successfully tackle the societal challenges prioritised by Campus Vida in fields such as health and the environment.



Exert influence over basic enabling technologies which are prioritised in Horizonte 2020 as part of the Industrial Leadership, Programme, and act as a motor for diversification and competitiveness in industrial sectors while also driving the knowledge economy forward. Thus, AeMAT aligns itself with The Industrial Model for the Galicia of the Future and the New model for Healthy Living defined by the Smart Specialisation Strategy (RIS3), designed by the Xunta de Galicia.

The partnership contains a wide range of experimental techniques in Material Science and Technology which allow it to transfer results obtained in the lab to the industrial setting in Galicia and to society in general.
